With the PGA Tour season finishing a couple of weeks ago with Rory McIlroy winning the Fed Ex Cup and a $15 million USD cheque, the 2020 PGA Tour season is about to start again this week at The Greenbier.
You are not going to see many of your big guns in the field but with a total prize purse of $7.5 million USD and 500 Fed Ex Cup points on offer the field is strong enough and it gives some of your tour rookies an opportunity to shine after receiving their PGA Tour card last week.
Most of your big names will start the season big game hunting with the first being in Korea for The CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges. This tournament will take place from the 17th to the 20th of October and carry a total purse of $9.75 million USD. Defending champion Brooks Koepka will tee it up again where last year he walked away with $1.71 million USD. The CJ Cup is start of the Asian swing for the PGA Tour where 3 very significant tournaments will be played there.
The second tournament will be played in Japan from the 24th to the 27th of October. The ZOZO Championship will be the first time every that a PGA Tour event will be played in Japan and only 78 players will tee it up for a total prize purse of $9.75 million USD again. Players like Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Jason Day, Sergio Garica, Bubba Watson and others have already committed to the tournament and being the week after The CJ Cup there could be more to come.
Then to finish the 2019 year and the last big tournament will be the World Golf Championship (WGC) – HSBC Champions in Shanghai, China. This will be on the 31st October to the 3rd of November. Being a WGC event the field will already be strong but this event is like the “Asia’s Major” to finish the 3 week run. Defending championship Xander Schauffele will be joined by Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose. The prize purse is just over $10 million USD at $10.25.
Most of the big names will take November off before they get ready for the President’s Cup in December. This year the event will be played at Royal Melbourne in Melbourne, Australia and will feature Team USA vs Team International. The international team will consist of players who are not European, they have their own tournament called the Ryder Cup, and the automatic qualifiers have already been announced. There is no prize money per se and it is a team event. The winners will be the ones who scores the most points for their teams and as a player you get to represent your nation and team.
