After 159 starts on the PGA Tour, Sung Kang wins his first tour victory taking out the AT&T Byron Nelson.
With a rain delay on Saturday it meant that there was plenty of golf to be played on the final day. Matt Every was the overnight leader with 27 holes to be played on the Sunday but by the end of the 3rd round, Kang was the leader by three strokes. Kang regained the lead with three birdies on the back nine, while Every had four consecutive bogeys.
Kang and Every went back and forth the whole final round as Every started with three consecutive birdies and was tied for the lead because Kang bogeyed the par-3 second hole.
Five birdies and a bogey on the first six holes got Every to 20 under, and a stroke ahead when he rebounded from the bogey at No. 4 with consecutive birdies.
Kang bounced back with three consecutive birdies in the middle of his round which regained him the lead but a bogey on the 12th and we were all tied at 21 under. Both players birdied the 14th to pull away from the field and it was a two horse race to the finish.
The turning point was the 15th as Kang managed to birdie the hole and Every dropped a shot with a bogey. Then for good measure Kang birdied the 16th and held a two shot lead to close out the final 2 holes.
The tour now turns to the 101st PGA Championship at Bethpage Black on Long Island starting next Thursday.
