It has been an amazing season on the PGA Tour this season with many first time winners. The new crop of players coming through are not your seasoned professionals and could be the next generation of players that we hear more often.
That is no different this week with South African Dylan Frittelli who won the John Deere Classic with a 7 under 64 on Sunday. It seemed that Frittelli was heading back to the secondary tour as he struggled this season but as luck would have it he secured a check for over $1 million USD and a tour card through the 20 – 21 PGA Tour season.
Andrew Landry and Cameron Tringale shared the 54-hole lead, but Tringale struggled on the opening 9 and saw him fall off the pace. Laudry fared better but his 1 under opening nine saw him two shots behind co-leaders Russell Henley and Frittelli. Henley teed off much earlier and blitzed the course for a 10 under 61 which saw him club house leader for a while until Frittelli caught him on the 11th hole.
In the end no one could catch Frittelli who finished at 21 under and claimed his first PGA Tour victory.
With the win he picked up a late minute invite to The Open Championship, starting this week and also earned invitations to next year’s Masters Tournament and THE PLAYERS Championship, among other select events.
To cap off a perfect win Frittelli and his caddy were about to board a chartered flight to The Open Championship with 13 other players and their caddies, and the FedExCup Playoffs awaited after that.
