Scottie Scheffler wins World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play
The win also moves him to world number 1.
This time last year Scheffler was in the championship match facing Billy Horschel who he eventually lost to 2 & 1 but this year he was trying to change the script.
Facing off with a red-hot Kevin Kisner, Scheffler jumped out to an early lead and never let that go again. He was 3 up through six holes and never gave Kisner an opportunity to get back into the match.
Scheffler never trailed his semi-finals match over Dustin Johnson or against Kisner. He was so solid that he never lost a hole to Kisner in the championship match. Even when he looked like he might lose the 12th hole after a poor chip shot which put him in the bunker, Scheffler holes out from the bunker for birdie and never gave Kisner a look in.
Scheffler closed the match out 4 & 3 and not only claimed the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play but World Number 1.
“I never got that far in my dreams,” Scheffler said in the trophy ceremony before choking up and wiping away tears, a rare show of emotion for the 25-year-old Texan. “I just play golf. I love competing. I'm happy to be out here, you know?”
