Hudson Swafford shoots an 8 under 64 in the final round to win the American Express.
Starting the day with an opening bogey, Swafford then went on a birdie run on the front nine to close 4 birdies and a 3 under 33.
Swafford built on the momentum and strung 3 birdies in a row on the back nine birding his 10th to 12th hole.
As the field bunch up towards the end of the tournament, Swafford found himself in a tied for the lead as he was heading into the par 5 16th hole. After hitting a monster driver, he then hit a 7 iron into 8 foot and calmly rolled in an eagle to take a 2 shot lead over the pack.
He then backs it up with another birdie on the island green par 3 17th with a 19 foot putt to take a 3 shot lead into the final hole.
When runner up Tom Hoge failed to eagle his 18th hole, Swafford had claimed victory again. His first time was in 2017.
“Yeah, I might have drove it a little better in ’17, it’s been a — haven’t hit quite as many fairways, but really hit my irons beautifully, putting great, doing everything else pretty good,” Swafford said.
“It’s kind of got that feel the way I feel like I’m rolling it.”
